How to play the 17-0 NFL game

  1. Make a pick: the draft card lands on a random NFL franchise and one season from 2001 to 2025, with that team’s real record.
  2. Draft one player from that roster into an open spot: QB, RB, WR1, WR2, TE or FLEX (running back, receiver or tight end).
  3. Repeat until your six spots are filled. Every player is rated on that exact season, and the quarterback counts most.
  4. Play all 17 games against real 2025 offenses, with final scores and the exact odds your lineup had of going 17-0.

The 17-0 game, explained

17-0 started as a football feed challenge: get a team, pick a player, repeat, then find out whether your lineup could run the table. Sportsdle’s version shows the real record of every team-season before you open its roster, lists the players by position with no ratings, and judges your offense on the season each player actually had with that team.

The season then plays out on a jumbotron, Sunday after Sunday, with final scores. It tells you when you match the 1972 Dolphins’ 14-0 start and the 2007 Patriots’ 16-0, and the exact odds your six had of going 17-0.

What is the 17-0 game?
A roster-building challenge: the draft card lands on an NFL franchise and one of its seasons, you pick one player from that real roster, six times, and a simulator plays your offense through a 17-game season. The goal is the one record no team has reached since the NFL went to 17 games: 17-0.
Has any NFL team ever gone 17-0?
Not in the regular season. The 2007 Patriots went 16-0 when seasons had 16 games, then lost the Super Bowl. The 1972 Dolphins went 14-0 and won three playoff games, 17-0 in all. The jumbotron tells you when your lineup matches them.
How does the draft work?
Each draw picks a franchise first, every franchise with the same chance, then one of its seasons from 2001 to 2025, with that team’s real record. You fill quarterback, running back, two wide receivers, tight end and a FLEX that takes a running back, a receiver or a tight end. A player can be drafted once, even from another season.
How is my lineup rated?
Each player is rated on that exact season, from production per team game (yards, touchdowns, receptions and turnovers) compared with players at the same position that year. The quarterback weighs 30 %, the running back, both receivers and the FLEX 15 % each, the tight end 10 %, and a weak link drags the whole offense down. Defense and the offensive line are held equal. Ratings stay hidden until the season is played.
Who does my offense play?
Seventeen of the 32 real teams, each rated from its best 2025 offensive lineup, pulled toward the league average because one season is not destiny, alternating home and away, one Sunday at a time. The schedule is generated for the game; it is not the official NFL schedule.
Is 17-0 actually possible?
Yes, but it is rare on purpose. A casual draft has about a 1 in 1,400 shot, a sharp one about 1 in 140, and the best lineups get into double-digit percentages. The result screen shows the exact odds your lineup had of going 17-0.
How many games can I play?
Three free seasons a day, reset at midnight New York time. Starting or abandoning a draft is free; only a played season counts. Pro members get unlimited seasons, one team skip and one season skip per draft, and no ads.
