Line Brawl — NHL card battle game

Collect real NHL cards from every era, build a six-card lineup under the salary cap, and fight on the ice. Beat the daily boss, then challenge your friends.

Shuffling 7,000 player-seasons…

How to play Line Brawl

  1. Collect real NHL cards. Every card is a real player-season since the 1960s: Gretzky 1985-86, Hasek 1997-98, McDavid 2022-23. Your starter pack comes from the team you pick, and a free pack arrives every day.
  2. Build your six. Three forwards, two defencemen and a goalie under a $40M salary cap. Stars cost up to $12.5M, so you cannot have them all. “Best lineup” builds it for you.
  3. Play turn by turn. One skater per side is on the ice. Each turn, pick a move: the one with the star is the coach’s pick. Drain the other skater’s energy and your team gets a shot on goal.
  4. Most goals wins. After fifteen turns, most goals wins; a tie goes to a shootout. Green STRONG moves hit 50% harder: Enforcers beat Snipers, Snipers beat Defenders, Defenders beat Playmakers, Playmakers beat Enforcers.
  5. Daily boss and friends. A real team-season is the daily boss, on Easy, Medium and Hard, with a pack for each win. Send your lineup’s link to a friend: they play against it.

The five card types

  • Sniper: Scores. Beats Defenders, struggles against Enforcers.
  • Playmaker: Sets up. Beats Enforcers, struggles against Defenders.
  • Enforcer: Hits. Beats Snipers, struggles against Playmakers.
  • Defender: Shuts down. Beats Playmakers, struggles against Snipers.
  • Goalie: Never fights. Stops (or not) every shot on goal.

Forwards with the heaviest penalty minutes of their season are Enforcers, forwards who score more than they set up are Snipers, the others are Playmakers. Every defenceman is a Defender.

Line Brawl FAQ

What is Line Brawl?
A free NHL card battle game. Every card is a real player-season, from the 1960s to today, with the stats of that season. You build a lineup of six cards (three forwards, two defencemen and a goalie) under a $40M salary cap and play turn-based games on a pixel rink: one skater per side on the ice, moves, line changes and goals.
How do I get cards?
Pick a franchise and you get a starter pack of nine cards from its history. After that, a free pack of five cards every day, plus a reward pack the first time you beat each tier of the daily boss and each friend’s lineup.
How are the cards rated?
The overall rating comes from the same era-adjusted model as our 84-0 game: points per game for skaters, save percentage against the league for goalies, with a bonus for major awards. Game stats (stamina, power, defence, vision) rank each season against every other card. Salaries follow the rating: about $1M for a depth player, $12.5M for the best seasons ever.
How does a game work?
Each turn, you and the computer pick at the same time. Snipers beat Defenders, Defenders beat Playmakers, Playmakers beat Enforcers and Enforcers beat Snipers. When a skater runs out of energy he leaves the ice and the other side gets a shot on goal: your goalie saves it or not. Three periods of five turns, then a shootout if it is tied.
How do I challenge a friend?
Every lineup has its own link. Send it, and your friend plays against your lineup, controlled by the computer. No account is needed on either side.
Is Line Brawl free?
Yes. It runs in your browser on a phone or a computer, and your cards are saved in that browser.
