How to play the 84-0 NHL game
- Drop the puck: it lands on a random NHL franchise and one precise season since 1967-68, with that team’s real record.
- Draft one player from that roster into an open spot: left wing, centre, right wing, two defencemen, one goalie. Names only, no stats.
- Repeat until your six spots are filled. Every player is rated on that exact season, era-adjusted, and the goalie counts most.
- Play all 84 games against the real 2025-26 league, then a best-of-seven against the Cup champions and the Presidents’ Trophy winners.
Three free lineups a day, four with a free account; a lineup is used at the first spin of a draft. The Daily 84-0 is free for everyone, once a day. Pro includes unlimited lineups, every franchise and era draft, optional skips in solo play and your full season history. Scored friend challenges use no skips for everyone. The schedule is generated for the game using opponents rated from 2025-26 data; it is not the official NHL fixture list.
The 84-0 game, explained
84-0 is Sportsdle’s take on the roster-building challenge that took over football feeds: spin, get a team, pick a player, repeat, then find out whether your lineup could go undefeated. It is built for the NHL’s new 84-game schedule, the first since 1993-94, and it is a Hockey IQ game: every draw gives you a franchise and one precise season, the list shows that season’s real roster with nothing but names and positions, and you have to know who was good that year.
Your six picks then play the full 84 games on a jumbotron, game by game, with final scores. It tells you when you pass the 17-game winning streak of the 1992-93 Penguins, when the 65 wins of the 2022-23 Bruins fall, and the exact odds your lineup had of running the table. No-skip lineups create scored challenge links with the same six draws for both players.
84-0 game FAQ
- What is the 84-0 game?
- It is the NHL version of the viral 17-0 football challenge. You draft a six-player lineup (left wing, centre, right wing, two defencemen, one goalie) from random team-seasons, then a simulator generates an 84-game season against opponents rated using 2025-26 data. The goal is the perfect season nobody has ever had: 84 wins, 0 losses.
- Why 84 games and not 82?
- Starting with 2026-27 the NHL regular season is 84 games per team for the first time since 1993-94. Older versions of this game are called 82-0; this one is built for the new schedule.
- How does the draft work?
- Each spin lands on a franchise and a precise season, anywhere from 1967-68 to today, for example Canadiens 2005-06. You see that season’s roster in alphabetical order with positions only, no statistics, and you pick one name into an open slot. Pro members get one team skip and one season skip per game; free players play the spin they get. There is no era rule: six seasons from the 2010s is a legal draft, and so is six from the 1970s.
- How is my lineup rated?
- Every player is rated on that exact season, adjusted for the era’s scoring level: a 1980s point total is scaled down, a dead-puck-era total is scaled up, and goalies are rated on save percentage relative to the league. Trophies add a small bonus. The six ratings are weighted (the goalie counts most), a weak link drags the whole team down, and the season is simulated game by game against the 32 real 2025-26 teams.
- Is 84-0 actually possible?
- Yes, but it takes an outstanding lineup and some luck. Ratings and simulated matchups both influence the result: a strong lineup improves your chances, it does not guarantee a perfect season. The result screen shows the exact odds your lineup had of going 84-0.
- Is there a daily 84-0?
- Yes. The Daily 84-0 gives every player the same six spins once a day, free and without an account. Your first season of the day is the one that counts: see how many of today’s players you beat, keep a daily streak and share a Wordle-style card of your season.
- Can I draft only from my favourite team or one era?
- Yes. Franchise mode draws every spin from one franchise’s history (the Quebec Nordiques years count for Colorado, the Hartford Whalers for Carolina), and era mode from one decade, the Original Six or the Canadian clubs. Free players get one franchise or era lineup a day; Pro is unlimited.
- Can I challenge a friend?
- Yes. Finish a lineup without skips and use Beat my lineup to share a scored challenge, available for 30 days. Both players get the same six draws with no skips, including Pro players. Most wins wins; equal wins is a tie. Seed-only links let friends try the starting draws but do not include a score comparison.
